This guide provides general information about common eye conditions. Always consult an eye doctor for any complaints or concerns.

💧 Dry Eye Syndrome

What is it?

Chronic condition caused by insufficient tear production or rapid evaporation. Increasingly common with digital device use.

Symptoms

Burning, stinging, redness, blurred vision, foreign body sensation, excessive watering, increased discomfort in wind or air-conditioning.

Risk Factors

Prolonged screen use, dry environments, contact lenses, certain medications, hormonal changes, aging.

💡 Daily Tip

Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Keep humidity 40-60%. Develop conscious blinking habit.

🏥 When to See a Doctor?

If symptoms persist despite eye drops, or redness and pain increase.

👓 Myopia (Nearsightedness)

What is it?

Refractive error where distant objects appear blurry while close ones are clear. Light focuses in front of the retina. Often starts in childhood and is rapidly increasing worldwide.

Symptoms

Unable to see distant objects clearly, difficulty reading the board, sitting close to TV, squinting, driving difficulty, headaches.

Risk Factors

Genetics, prolonged near work, limited outdoor activity, excessive screen use.

💡 Daily Tip

1-2 hours of outdoor activity daily may slow progression. Take regular breaks during near work.

🏥 When to See a Doctor?

When distant objects become blurry or current prescription feels insufficient.

📖 Hyperopia (Farsightedness)

What is it?

Refractive error where near objects appear blurry. Light focuses behind the retina when the eyeball is too short. Mild hyperopia is present from birth in most people.

Symptoms

Difficulty with near work, reading fatigue, headaches after reading, blurred near vision, eye strain.

Risk Factors

Genetics, aging.

💡 Daily Tip

Use adequate lighting when reading. Take regular breaks during near work.

🏥 When to See a Doctor?

When experiencing difficulty with near vision or headaches after reading.

🔍 Astigmatism

What is it?

Refractive error caused by an irregularly shaped cornea or lens. Light cannot focus on a single point, causing blurry or distorted vision at all distances. Can occur with myopia or hyperopia.

Symptoms

Blurry or distorted vision at all distances, eye strain, headaches, night vision difficulty, halos around lights.

Risk Factors

Genetics, eye trauma, keratoconus, post-surgery.

💡 Daily Tip

Keep prescription current with regular exams. Take breaks during screen use.

🏥 When to See a Doctor?

If you experience blurry vision, distortion, or difficulty driving at night.

🔴 Glaucoma

What is it?

Serious eye disease where increased intraocular pressure damages the optic nerve, potentially causing vision loss. Called the 'silent thief' as it may show no early symptoms. One of the most common causes of irreversible blindness worldwide.

Symptoms

May be asymptomatic initially, peripheral vision loss, tunnel vision, central vision loss in advanced stages. Acute: sudden severe eye pain, nausea, redness, halos.

Risk Factors

Age 40+, family history, high intraocular pressure, myopia, diabetes, prolonged corticosteroid use.

💡 Daily Tip

Regular eye pressure measurements after age 40. Early detection prevents vision loss.

🏥 When to See a Doctor?

Regular checkups from age 40. Emergency for sudden vision loss, eye pain, or peripheral vision narrowing.

🌫️ Cataracts

What is it?

Age-related condition where the eye's lens gradually becomes cloudy. One of the most common causes of preventable blindness worldwide. Modern cataract surgery has very high success rates.

Symptoms

Blurry or hazy vision, faded colors, night vision difficulty, light sensitivity, double vision in one eye, frequent prescription changes.

Risk Factors

Aging (50+), diabetes, UV exposure, smoking, corticosteroid use, eye trauma, family history.

💡 Daily Tip

Wear UV-protective sunglasses. Avoid smoking. Eat antioxidant-rich foods.

🏥 When to See a Doctor?

When vision becomes cloudy, colors fade, or night vision deteriorates.

💻 Digital Eye Strain

What is it?

Eye fatigue syndrome from prolonged use of computers, phones, and tablets. Also known as 'computer vision syndrome'. Permanent damage not proven but significantly affects quality of life.

Symptoms

Eye fatigue and pain, dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches, neck/shoulder pain, light sensitivity, focusing difficulty.

Risk Factors

2+ hours daily screen use, wrong screen distance, poor lighting, air-conditioning, outdated prescription.

💡 Daily Tip

Follow 20-20-20 rule. Position screen below eye level. Maintain humidity. Blink consciously.

🏥 When to See a Doctor?

If symptoms persist despite breaks and ergonomic adjustments.
