Evening Wind-Down

A calm evening routine with slow movements, breathing and warm relaxation to rest your eyes before sleep.

  • 9 min
  • 4 exercises
  1. Calm breathing 120 s
  2. Blinking exercise 60 s
  3. Gentle eye massage 120 s
  4. Palming 120 s

After a day of screens, reading and bright light, many people feel their eyes are heavy and tense in the evening. This routine is designed to help you wind down. It uses slow, soft exercises rather than fast eye jumps: gentle tracking at a calm speed, a light eye-area massage around the temples and brows, palming with warm hands and a slow breathing exercise with closed eyes. Optionally, you can add a warm compress for the eyelids, which many people with dry eyes find soothing.

Do the routine in the evening, ideally 30 to 60 minutes before bed, in a dimly lit room. Turn your screen brightness down while you follow it, and afterwards put devices away. Many people find it a pleasant ritual that marks the end of the working day.

The routine aims at relaxation and comfort; it is not a treatment for eye disease or insomnia. Good sleep itself is one of the best things for your eyes, since the eye surface recovers overnight. If you regularly wake up with red, gritty or sticky eyes, ask an eye-care professional.

Frequently asked questions

Will this help me sleep?

Relaxing activities and less screen time before bed can make it easier to wind down for some people, but the routine is not a treatment for sleep problems.

Is the warm compress safe?

Yes, if it is comfortably warm, not hot. Test the temperature on your inner wrist first and never use anything that could burn the delicate eyelid skin.

Can I do it in bed?

Yes, the relaxation parts work well sitting up in bed. Keep the screen dim and at a comfortable distance.
